Mythology

Mythology is studying myths or legends. It's sorta like archeology because the myths are old. It's important because it shows different gods or beliefs in different cultures. For example Ancient Greece had a lot of mythology with gods/goddesses.

Occupy Maine Files Lawsuit

I think they've gone to far when applying for a permit. It's not even a protest and its basically the homeless camping out. So its the homeless asking for a permit to sleep in the park, even though they sleep anywhere they want. They should just leave the protests to the bigger city's where its more organized and action packed with clashes and stuff.

Wind Turbine Plans

I think it should be allowed on Maines coast. They would create a lot of jobs and help distribute electricity. Four of the turbines can create about 12 megawatts which could power 18,000 homes. It could be more energy efficient. Some people would think it's a eyesore (local people) and fishermen think they would get their nets caught on them. However the fishermen think there good in some aspects. It might cost a lot of money at first but it would pay itself off.

Eyesore or Noble Cause?

I think its a eyesore. The homeless people have moved in and not many are the real protesters. They have a few signs up and dont really act like the other protesters do. They have damaged some of the grass and they are not hygienic. About 5 people have been arrested at the camp.

Winter Activity

My favorite Winter Activity would be making snowmobiling. Its like driving a car but easier. You can drive around in spots you can't get to with a car. Its quicker then walking however the exhaust smells and it's super loud. Some other favorite activities are Ice Skating and Sledding.

Culture Shock

I think that the advice given was good. I think some of the symptoms or outcomes were kinda unnecessary. I would take off bordem and exaggerated cleaning. When you arrive in a new place there would be so many things to do. So you couldn't possibly get bored. I don't know why you would clean so much. I understand the outbursts of crying and homesickness though.

Character Problems they Face

My main character in Children of the River was Sundara. She has had some tough times fitting in like her family picking out her marriage. She isn't allowed to wear certain things but she wants to. Her brothers are fitting in perfectly. They eat fast food and do all the things regular boys that age do.

Penn State: Law Change

I sorta care if the law gets changed. I don't live in Pennsylvania so it wouldn't affect me in any ways. The law would make anyone that witnesses child abuse of any kind report it. From what I know about the whole abuse thing at the university was they did report it and it kinda got stuck and wasent reported by someone. So it went from one person to the other who then reported it to his boss where it was never reported. I think that if anyone sees something like that they should just go to the authorities and not there boss. That way they know it would get to the authorities and not get stuck with someone not reporting it. If I witnessed what happened in the locker room I would have stopped it. Then after reported the event...

Our Town Essay

You think you have a bad life because you don't view the latest entertainment? Technology or Clothing? Well Grovers Corner had worse of what you had. Yeah they still had clothing and entertainment but it wasn't like what you had. They had only the basics in life. Now you have iPhones, Flat Screen TV's, Blu-Ray Movies and gadgets that can do all sorts of stuff! They had simple clothing that was nice and formal but now we have all sorts of clothing. The book we read was Our Town by Thornton Wilder.

We all know that back then the only way to contact someone was by mail or going to the person(s) house. Now we have phones/cellphones, e-Mail, texting and social networking sites. So what kind of entertainment do you think they had? They didn't have Monopoly or Mouse Trap. They never had movie theaters or TV's. They never had a App Store full of games and entertainment. Again they didn't have iPhones or a iPad. They didn't have a lot of stuff!! The late 1800's and early 1900's were very different with entertainment, technology, clothing and food. That all combined is a culture trait which is different now then in the Our Town era.

In the book they mentioned they had sports. For example, baseball since George was the best player in the town according to (put persons name here). They could have had football but that was never mentioned. Now we have basketball, golf and tennis. Also those mini sports you play in gym class. One of those from what I can remember would be team handball.

Games were certainly different. Yes they had sports as mentioned above but they had other games to play. Such as jumprope, boomerang, jacks, hopscotch and checkers. So now we have those games but more board games like Monopoly, Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Trouble and Candy Land. The only one thats a board game probably available back then was checkers. They also never had a iPod Touch and a App store to download and play games!

Technology was different back then it is now. They had the first automobiles in the early 1900's but now we have all different types of cars. Cars are smaller and bigger and have different colors and speeds. They never had cell phones or iPod's. Never had a internet service or a Kindle. They had books and not these new e-Books.

I personally think that it has changed because if you put someone from Our Town into South Portland now, it would be a "smack in the face".

So the late 1800's and early 1900's were different with technology as I reviewed. We still had the sport's, entertainment and games but they were different and less advanced. We had the same sports as back then put invented more. We never had phones or email but got those later on. We had some board games or games to play and invented more later on. So I think that technology back in the Our Town era was different then now.

Missing Work

I have missing work all on my blog. You may have to scroll down to see missing posts from earlier that I posted awhile ago. Thanks

My Culture

I think my culture is full of media. I read the newspaper when its available and get monthly subscriptions to different magazines. I watch different TV shows (mostly news since we have basic channels). I definitely think my culture has Facebook and Gmail involved. I have a MP3 filled up with about 300 of new and old songs. So yeah thats my culture with Music, TV, Reading and Internet...

George Quote

"I think that once you've found a person you are very fond of...I mean a person who is fond of you, too, and likes you enough to be interested in your character...Well I think that's just as important as college is, and even more so. That's what I think."

I never understood this quote from George. However after examining the quote a few times I understand what it means. Hes saying that if someone likes you so much. Also if she or he likes your character then thats pretty important. He compared that to college saying he would give up college just for that. He was going to go to college to be a good farmer. You dont need to go to college to be a farmer. Just read some books..

Civic Center Revisited

Like all campaigns theres a good side and a bad side. The good side is that it would be a brand new building allowing more entertainment. The bad side would be the cost of the project. Now the people on the bad side are giving a shout out to the citizens of the "truth". They say that they aren't adding more seats and are simply reorganizing things. Also that revenue would still be the same even if it wasent renovated. That they would lose revenue when it was being renovated. I guess the final vote from people will depend on price!

Genocide (Definition and Event)

Genocide: The deliberate killing of a large group or ethnic race

The event I choose was the Rwandan Genocide. It happened in Rwandan, Africa and started when the president of that country and another country where assassinated. It happened during a 100 day duration. The death toll was estimated up to 1,000,000 people! There are still mini wars and murders going on in the country.

Selfish Giant (Short Story)

The story starts out in a nice garden filled with flowers and birds chirping. All the local children would come and play. The Giant was unaware of the kids playing because he was visiting a friend. When he got back he was mad to find kids playing in his garden. So he scared them away and made a huge wall surrounding the garden. Now the kids had know where to play and the season changed to fall then winter. After winter spring came to the town but not the giants garden. Winter stayed in the garden because spring wanted children to play with. Summer, Autumn or Fall never came and it was always winter. One day as the giant was laying on his bed he heard noise and though that spring had come. The kids had crawled through a hole in the wall to his garden where spring had arrived. He played with the kids and had fun. Later on the giant died and was found by the children under a tree.

Changing Behavior

The only time I had to change my behavior alot that I can remember was two summers ago. My older sister tripped me and pushed me down the steps and I got super mad. My little sister saw the whole thing because she was brushing her teeth nearby. So I went down a flight of stairs but managed to hold onto the railing before falling to the ground. So yeah I screamed and started yelling at my sister. My mom and dad didn't believe me when I told them. Neither did they believe my little sister. So she pretty much my older sister got away with what she did. I had to change my behavior or attitude pretty quickly cause my little sisters birthday was a few hours after.

The Lottery

The Lottery took place on a nice morning. The local kids get there first and start collecting rocks. More so the boys. Then the first adults start arriving not to long after. The Lottery was to pick a sacrifice to have good crops. Certain men came up and took a paper. One person had the correct paper and the wive was outraged! So they had two kids pick out two more papers and whatever one that had the ticket that had the dot or something was the sacrifice. The sacrifice was for good crops in the upcoming year. I think they pelted the rocks to kill the chosen sacrifice. (So that's why they got the rocks before the ceremony started). I didn't really get this story so I read it twice to double check.

12 Y/O Shoots Himself while Hunting

Im not a big fan of having kids hunting or being able to handle guns. It's great if the kids are outdoors and getting active and not being inside. Though theres many dangers to hunting. The kid could get shot by a stray bullet or shoot himself, like the kid in the news article. The kids have many objects that could bounce back at him. However a shooting range would be a clear shot. So I think that kids shouldn't really be allowed to hunt but be able to handle guns with super tight restrictions and rules. Sometimes the gun can get in the wrong kids hand and injure himself or someone else.

Favorite Season

I like Springtime because every things new and colorful. It isn't to hot but it isn't to cold. Theres not too much rain in spring but not a lot of rain. Theres two or three major holidays and a few mini events that aren't as huge as holidays. It's almost near the end of school which is a good thing. Its near summer which means vacation and hot temps. If I had to pick a favorite holiday it would be Christmas!

Obama fixes Bridge

I think it's good were getting funding money. It's a start on making jobs but it's not the biggest way. They should fix small bridges and road ways and then work on a big bridge that connects Kittery to Portsmouth that is closed. It's threatening to lose jobs and shut down business. It also makes more traffic during summer. That needs the most funding out of everything. The best way to improve our economy is to pay off all the debts and try to start new. Why can't the government just print how much money they want and pay off debts and other things?

Racino and Casino

Im not into Gambling and don't know what alot of the terms are. I do know that they can bring jobs and boost the economy, and also have nice bright lights! I would vote for the one in Biddeford. Though instead of Biddeford or Lewiston why not Portland? Portland has the megaberth and with cruise ship passengers could bring extra bucks. Anyways they should place them in the citys/towns then make some rules. Like certain age to gamble and what can happen at the building. So if I could vote I would vote on the Racinos and Casinos. They would make jobs for mainly construction. Then the staff and stuff for the other jobs.

GCC Aspect

I think one aspect of culture at Grovers Corner is mannerism. They don't run around swearing like people do now. They greet each other when on the streets instead of now when we just pass by. They all sit at the table at meals when now its not everyones home and your not eating together. I would also say that part of mannerism is trust. The stage manager played the shop manager and let George go home to get his money after buying and drinking his soda. Now you cant really let them go home because they could never return!! In South Portland in certain parts of the city you can find the neighborhoods that have the mannered/trustworthy people. Then you can find the druggies/prostitutes that aren't very mannered/trustworthy.

Grovers Corner Culture

The culture at Grovers Corner is kinda dull. Like the only big news in the newspaper was a teacher getting married. They wear old fashioned dress and suits. I havent heard anything about music and they didn't have television. It seems like they dont have many places to go shopping besides the genreal store. They had sports like baseball though I don't know if they have basketball. The people are more polite then todays culture.

Fireworks Banned but still legal

I think banning Fireworks in certain citys is good. Fireworks being legal in Maine are good because they will bring jobs and entertainment. However there should be strict rules involved. Anyways back to the original question towns or citys should be able to ban fireworks. In large areas like Portland, Westbrook and South Portland it's highly populated. Fireworks could cause injury or death to people. On such small lots in citys it could cause damage to buildings. If rowdy youth got ahold of fireworks, and launched them during the night it would cause a disturbance. Im sure that with Fireworks being legal there will be tough rules involving them. However rules don't stop everyone.

Culture Influence

The internet influences myself I guess. Without it I would be bored all the time. I wouldn't be able to do any online homework. I wouldn't be able to watch anything like Youtube videos or go on Facebook. I have the internet so I'm fine though. I can do everything or anything that I want to do because I have it. I think also that everyone takes the internet for granted though. Also that everyone uses the internet too much. Like the first thing I do when I get home is Facebook instead of homework. When it should be the exact opposite. Whenever the internet has a outage everyone freaks out or can't access important documents.

Time Capsule

I would put a few things in the time capsule. All the yearbooks from the school that we could find. School clothing like the sweatshirts or hats. Then pictures of students we could find from when the school first opened to when the capsule was placed. Also put pictures of teachers we could find when the school first opened to when it was placed. Many more items could be placed in the capsule.

Separating the Classes

I think the boys in one class in girls in the other has its pros and cons. The girls dont have to have boys staring at them. They wont have boys to talk about since they wouldn't really see them. However they would always talk about makeup and be applying it. The boys wont have girls to stare at. They wont have girls to talk about. However they would be rowdy and be rough since it's all boys. Both could learn at there own pace and stuff.

Civic Center Renovation Idea

I think the Civic Center Renovation is good for the city. It would attract more shows and sports to the building, and let in more people to see the show. The equipment would probably new and state of the art. More food venders offering different foods then the regular pizza, hotdogs, fries and so on. The restrooms which get flooded with people during intermissions would have more stalls and urinals. The halls would be wider so people aren't crammed together when trying to get out. There would be maybe more space in thestage area and some more seating. The outside would stand out from the rest of the buildings. It would catch everyones eye when passing by. The owners hope to have more glass on the outside and lights. The lights would advertise games or other events or just change colors. So I think the renovation would be good. It might be costly but with good outcomes. The new Megaberths that can now fit to large cruise ships defiantly took some money. Though that money will be paid off when the ships start coming.

American Culture

I thought the webpage was sorta surprising. I would have thought that the American Language was English. Apparently theres no direct language but immigrants have many languages. I also knew that America was full of immigrants. Also that immigrants had different religions, foods and media. It really sounded like a robot was writing it they way it sounded. It also was way to formal. When your eating fast food or a meal you eat it all. You don't leave some food left on your plate. YOU EAT IT ALL! When your eating you shouldn't have your elbows on the table but some do. It's not the end of the world if that happens. So another thing was the article was to focused on manners.

Auto-Biography

I was born on September 25th 1997 on a nice fall day. When I was born I had jaundice, so I had to stay about a week for treatment. My family was made of mom, dad and my older sister and a dog, birds and a cat. Fast forward to 2001 where I got my 2nd sister. That year during the fall I started Preschool which was right down the street. I met a lot of new kids and had fun. One of the kids I would see till eighth grade but then he moved. During Kindergarden I made more friends and saw my older sister a lot. She was in fifth grade and her friends loved me. They would hug me and give me snacks. After Kindergarden I switched to a closer school by a few minutes. I think they like re-did the school zones, and where kids go to school. I met more new friends and my friend from Preschool also switched. The school I switched to was also brand new and renovated.

Fast forward many years later to third grade, where I had surgery. Only for my spleen and gallbladder to be removed. I was discharged after three days staying. Then fast forward to the summer of completing forth grade. I went to Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. For about a week. I went to Barbeques/Pool Parties, Museums, Malls and some restaurants. We also met some cousins we never see. It was a fun time because we never see any of our cousins. In fifth grade my older sister got strep throat/mono. She stayed in the hospital for about a week. That made me miss a lot of end of school events.

The summer of completing fifth grade a few things happened. My artwork was featured in Art in the Park hosted at Millcreek Park. I also got my first cellphone that year. In sixth grade I made new friends and got honor roll a few times. That's what happened in seventh grade, except I got a new phone and a school laptop. I also made a youtube account where I discovered a new talent. Film-making and acting which I still do now. I have about fifty five films on Youtube. In eighth grade I was in Drama and Stream Team. I only stayed for one play in Drama. Its just I don't like doing shows for kids. They were all like Kindergartners through third grade. I also didn't like staying after school so late till, like at five even six at night. The Stream Team was a club that cleaned up trash at Millcreek Park and the stream. We actually got in the stream which was cool. I found a expensive watch during it. During winter I learned two things. My older sister was going to have a baby boy. It was pretty cool cause I would be a uncle. It's supposed to be born a few days before my birthday. The second thing was that we were moving. We are moving to Denmark, Maine which is next to Fryeburg and Bridgton. We live right across from a lake and we have wildlife all around us. So far we have Birds, Chipmunks/Squirrels, Beaver, Raccoon, Moose, Bear and Deer. It seems fun that were moving but the only bad parts is were doing everything by ourselves. Were already building the house by OURSELF! Don't forget the septic, power and trees. The property we bought was full of trees. So we had to cut a lot down and stack them into pieces. I learned the school I'm going to is private and people come from all around the world. It's called Fryeburg Academy in the town of Fryeburg. The bus picks us up at six-thirty in the morning when we go there. It's about a half hour or longer trip on the bus.

Also in the summer I went to a amusement park called Canobie Lake Park. We went for the second time and I forgot to mention it during the summer of sixth grade. That summer was when we went for the first time. The best thing after Canobie Lake Park was being a shooting. However it was a fake shooting not a real one. It was at the local middle school and if we do a “What I did for Summer” essay you can learn more. Also this summer I made a Facebook and so far have about 110 friends. Now it's the end of summer and back to school. It's going great so far. The only class I don't like is Gym. I've never liked Gym though at all. So yeah that's basically me and my life.

Summer Reading Book

The book I read during the Summer was Michael Jackson: The Magic, The madness, The Whole Story. It was mainly about Michael Jackson's life from birth to death. So it started out from his birth which was August 29, 1958 and progressed to the Jackson 5. There was nothing big or fantastic about his life from birth to Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 started out playing for clubs. There dad would run off and have affairs. The dad also was very greedy and selfish. He never cared about the ways his son's felt. He would always drink and get rough with his son's. After the Jackson 5 ended Michael produced his first albums, which were a hit with people. His dad always tried to control his life, seeing if he could get him to do things. That's one reason Michael Jackson never was with his family unless something big happened. Many years later he produced Thriller and Bad. He went on many tours all around the world, and donating to any charities. During the 1990's he was charged with molesting a 13 year old boy. It was later resolved and after MJ's death the boy came forward saying he never touched him. After he kinda went into hiding. Then to shorten it up the charges came up again with another boy. That issue was also resolved. In 2009 he was getting ready to go on-tour but died. Now to find out much more just read the book!
